Our mining team takes decades of broking experience across several sectors, to bring insight to mid & small-cap mining.

We cover a range of mining companies, from large multi asset producers to companies with development projects. These companies produce gold, silver, diamonds and platinum group metals on the precious side. We also cover copper, zinc, chrome, nickel and potash producers and developers. Lastly we have coverage of two royalty and streaming businesses, one precious and one industrial.

Peter Mallin-Jones joined Peel Hunt in May 2015 with 15 years of broking experience with both Goldman Sachs and latterly Canaccord Genuity. He led mining focused research teams at both houses. Peter has covered a wide range of metals and mining companies over that time from bulk commodities, base and precious metals through to specialty steel manufacturers. A chartered accountant, Peter holds an MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge. In the 2021 Institutional Investor (Extel) Survey, Peter was ranked #1 analyst for Metals & Mining and ranked #1 Top Stock Picker in the Metal & Mining category (United Kingdom and Ireland) in the 2020 Refinitiv StarMine Awards.

Tim Huff joined Peel Hunt in December 2018. Tim has over 25 years’ experience in equity research, having led the research and analysis effort for the large cap mining and steel companies at RBC and RBS. Tim joined us from Canaccord where he was Director of equity research covering a variety of companies in the small and mid-cap mining space. Tim holds an Accounting & Finance Bachelors degree from Lehigh University. Tim ranked 2nd in Mining in the 2021 Institutional Investor (Extel) survey and 1st in Mining in 2020.

Prior to joining Peel Hunt, John Gilbert was an Associate Director at Macquarie as Specialist Energy Sales. John has been a specialist salesman in the Energy and Mining sectors for the last 12 years, working at specialist resources firms including FirstEnergy Capital, Libertas Capital and Fox-Davies Capital. John has a BSc in Economics & Sociology from the University of Bristol. In the 2021 Institutional Investor (Extel) Survey, John was ranked 3rd overall for UK SMID Specialist Sales, and ranking 1st in Mining specialist sales.

Gold sector update

Higher gold prices for longer as inflation bites twice. We update our gold equity estimates to account for rising gold prices, believing that a second surge of food price inflation will sustain higher prices through 2022E.
