• New Yorkers who receive their first dose of a vaccine at any city -run site will get a $100 incentive from today.

• The latest NHS data suggests 23% of Covid infections in hospital were in patients admitted for other reasons.

• From Sunday, anyone entering Germany will have to take a test unless they are fully vaccinated or have recovered from the disease.

Residents must stay at home, except for essential shopping, indoor and al fresco dining is banned. Also extended a ban on travellers coming from 10 countries including India, Indonesia, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates to 15 August.

• Japan is to expand the state of emergency in Tokyo to neighbouring areas of Saitama, Kanagawa and Chiba and the western city of Osaka on Friday.

• The Delta variant is as contagious as ‘chickenpox ’ and ‘could cause severe illness ’, according to the US CDC.

• A King's College London study, which looked at data from the Zoe Covid Symptom Study app, found that men were more likely to report shortness of breath, fatigue, chills and fever, while women were more likely to report loss of smell, chest pain and a persistent cough.
