• Two rounds of testing through swabs and air samples at London Euston, Birmingham New Street, Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly station s have found no traces of Covid -19 , according to Network Rail.

• Metropolitan Manila, already subject to a six -hour curfew from 10pm, will bring forward that curfew by two hours to 8pm.

• A lockdown in Brisbane and other parts of south east Queensland in Australia has been extended. Due to end on Tuesday, the lockdown will now run until at least Sunday. • In Portugal, bars and clubs have reopened for the first time since the pandemic began. However, clients must remain seated and no dancing is allowed.

• In China, a total of 15 provinces and municipalities have now confirmed cases, 12 of which are connected to an outbreak that began in Nanjing in China's eastern Jiangsu province .

• All train services into Beijing from newly designated high -risk areas have been suspended. All flight connections with the eastern city of Yangzhou have also been halted.

• As of 2 August, a total of 281 cases have been linked to the Olympics since 1 July, according to data collected by the International Olympic Committee. • On Sunday Florida broke a previous record in the US for current hospitalisations, as the number of patients in hospitals due to the virus rose to 10,207.

• New Zealand is opening a travel corridor from Samoa, Tonga, and Vanuatu, to allow seasonal workers into the country without quarantine.

• In Sydney, 300 soldiers, unarmed and under police command, have begun door -to -door visits to ensure people who have tested positive are isolating at their homes.

• Overall wellbeing in England decreased in the last year. Gross domestic wellbeing (GDWe ) based on ONS data, was 6.79 out of 10 for 2019/20, compared with 6.89 for 2018/19, its lowest level since 2015/16.

• The number of adults in England feeling lonely has been increasing since 2017 and in the last year jumped by 44%, from 2.6 million to 3.7 million.
